I love reading about how business got their start and Elegant Stitches is one of my favorites.  Born “out of necessity” because they couldn’t find what they were looking for.  You don’t need any other excuse!
“Elegant Stitches was “born” in 1986 out of necessity – we couldn’t find top quality smocking and heirloom sewing supplies to sew for our own children.  In the past 27 years, we have come from having 8 bolts of fabric and a handful of patterns and plates to being one of the largest shops of our kind in North Carolina.  (The children we were sewing for are now either in college, grad school or have graduated and are out on their own and there is now an ‘elegant granddaughter’.  How quickly time flies!) In addition to our wide array of patterns, fabrics and sewing supplies, we are also factory authorized and trained Bernina and Elna sewing machine dealers.”
What am I shopping for at Elegant Stitches right now?  I’m loving their large supply of Featherwale corduroy.  Perfect for my Fall and Winter sewing and it pleats up beautifully for smocking!

I love Elegant Stitches! The women are so helpful, especially for someone new to sewing and smocking. They are not only a great place to find fabrics and notions but also have a wealth of knowledge to share. I feel so lucky to have this shop so close to where I live.

If you live around the Raleigh/Cary North Carolina area, they also have a SAGA group that meets called Elegant Stitchers of Cary. I just joined and they are just a wonderful group of ladies that I have really enjoyed getting to know.
