After weeks of planning, Tiffany and I were finally able to make our long awaited trip to The Sewing Room in Birmingham, AL. How do you manage to navigate a fabulous store full of absolutely delicious fabrics, laces and notions on a tight schedule? With a lot of planning that’s how!
I began weeks in advance sketching out projects, making a list for new sample garments, projects for the magazine and a special Easter dress. Once our list was completed, we also wanted plenty of time to just browse and visit with the staff. Only two hours for shopping called for a well thought out plan. Tiffany and I began by taking a tour of the store and checking out the newest Spring arrivals. Then, armed with my notebook of ideas and sketches, I began selecting fabric for each project. After describing each garment to Tiffany and the yardage required, she was in charge of having it cut and writing down the manufacturer names and details. Our plan was a success! Not only did we come home with fabric for eleven garments, I even know which fabric goes with which project.
A special thanks to Greg and his staff for making our visit so enjoyable and for the lunch recommendation. As if shopping at The Sewing Room wasn’t enough, our delicious lunch at Ashley Mac’s completed our perfect day!
